The Lance of the Sable Lion An Tir

Unto Duchess Elspeth Trelawney MacNaughton, Premier Patroness, Baroness Aurora Danielle Trevelyan, Our Most Noble Cousins of the Company of the Azure Rose, Trimaris, and the gracious and glorious Ladies of the Berfrois, doth the Lance of the Sable Lion of An Tir send Greetings.

The Lance of the Sable Lion of An Tir this day will number three.  First, please let me introduce myself to you.  I am, Queen Angharad Banadaspus Drakenhefd.  Six times have I reigned as Queen of the grand and glorious Kingdom of An Tir.  No other awards or distinctions that I may hold surpasses this honor.

Many miles will I have traveled to meet with my cousins of Trimaris upon the field of the Tournament of the Wolf Moon, in the Emprise of the Azure Rose.  I will carry the favor of the people of An Tir, in whose honor I do ride and to whom I give my all every day of my life, until such time as I depart my throne.

I will bear the Arms of the Queen An Tir:  Checky Or and argent, a lion rampant, tail forked and nowed sable, crowned gules, grasping in dexter forepaw a wreath of hearts, points to center, alternating with roses gules, barbed and seeded proper.
The motto I will bear is:  Non deest generoso in pectore virtus - There is no lack of courage in a noble heart.

The second member of the Lance of the Sable Lion of An Tir, who will ride beside me, is Her Ladyship Donwenna La Mareschale, a Companion of the Ordo Equi of An Tir and thus well suited to the field of combat.

She comes before you as Captain of the Lance of  St. Anne, and a Companion of the Company of the Sable Rose Argent of An Tir, for the glory and honor of horse and rider upon the field of this glorious Emprise.

She shall be known by her Arms on her billet:  Sable muletty argent, a palomino horse contourney courant proper, in chief a tilting lance fesswise reversed Argent.

She and her destrier shall compete wearing: Sable, muletty argent.  Her motto is that of the Company of St. Anne:  Cum honore equitate, vincete omnibus gloriam! - We ride with Honor, we win Glory for All!

She shall be known by her crest: A great fan of black ostrich feathers overlaid with white ostrich feathers and three eyes of peacock feathers in base and surmounting all, a white star.

Know HL Donwenna also by her accomplishments: Lady of the Society, Holder of the Tower of Dreiburgen , Holder of the Illuminated Tower of Dreiburgen for Equestrian Arts, Companion of the Order of the Harp Argent for Equestrian Arts, Holder of the Horse Token from the Princess of the Mists, Companion of the Goutte de Sang, Holder of the Jambe De Leone...and perhaps the only Society member to ever hold both a Caid Dolphin and an Aquaterra Dolphin--aye, a  pod of dolphins for service!

Know her by her lineage as Student to the most Glorious Baroness Anastasia
Alexandrovna Andreeva, Companion to the Laurel, Order of the Carp, and Order of the Coeur de Lyon.

Know her by her service to Queens! It was her honor in Caid to serve with her destrier, Venus, on the Queen's Horse Guard for Their Royal Majesties: Alisandra, Larissa, Deshive, Ceinwen, Darla, and Trista.  By Right of Arms she won Her Majesty Darla’s, Queen’s Equestrian Championship.  She doth now stand as retinue in service to me, Queen Angharad, of AN TIR.

And it was her honor to provide further service to all of the Society as the Third SCA-wide Equestrian Officer.  She created the Society Equestrian Marshallate badge that all of Equestrian Marshals across the Known World now bear.  She now serves as an Equestrian Marshal of An Tir and Society-wide Equestrian Marshal of the Field.

She is the Founding Seneschal of the Shire of Earnrokke and is Equestrian Champion to the Barony of Dragon’s Laire.
She rides for the honor of her right-beloved husband and champion, His Lordship Agelos Evienece and her brave son, Giraldus Evienece, whose favors she bears. She hails from the Shire of Earnrokke, in the great Kingdom of An Tir!

The third member of the Lance of the Sable Lion of An Tir, who will ride beside me, is Lady Cornelia Cheval-Noir, who currently serves on the Royal Equestrian Guard of An Tir.

Know her by her (pending) arms:  Argent, issuant from a fountain, a horse salient sable and a bordure vert.

Know her also by her Crest:  A black horse's head.
Her motto is:  As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.

Lady Cornelia is a holder of the Sable Chime for bardic prowess.  Winner at this year’s Great Western War Emprise.  And the owner of the noble Friesian steed, Tjeerd.

She rides for the honor of her noble son, Tallis le Magne. And her heart is pledged forever to her true love and husband, one of the greatest bards in An Tir: Terry of the Clan McQuirk.

Lady Cornelia doth say unto you:  “I call all equestrians to ride with honor, but more than that, with JOY, for there is no better pastime, say I, than spending happy hours in the company of noble friends, both equine and human. It is my delight to ride this day, to banish fear and ride forth in peace and celebration.”
Our noble steeds shall come from the fields of Trimaris, and though we know them not, we shall be well pleased to compete upon these strong-hearted destriers.

We three ladies upon this field do come, to do honor in the name of the Companions of the Companies of the Rose throughout the Knowne World, for the honor of the Ladies of the Berfrois, and to represent our fair Kingdom of An Tir.  We will ride upon the field in the quest of noble camaraderie, great deeds and word fame.  We do hope that our words and deeds do us the honour of entry in the Emprise of the Azure Rose.  We look forward to many days and nights of joyous friendship and honor both upon and off the field in the noble land of Trimaris.

Lady Sunnifa inn gladi Svewnsdottir

Hail unto Baroness Aurora Danielle Trevelyan of Renwick, Baroness Brenna Caitlin MacGrioghair and Premier Patroness, Duchess Elspeth Trelawney MacNaughton. Health and fair time of day, joy and good wishes. I do salute you and the Shire of Riversmor, for joyous am I writting this missive.

Long I have waited to return to the Tourney fields of Trimaris. As a Premier Companion of the Company of The Azure Rose, it is my honor and privilege to tender my intent to stand as a venent upon the field in the Tournament of the Wolf Moon, on the morning of the 7th day of January, in year of our Lord 2006.
I summon up remembrance of Tournaments past. I have long dreamt of many of my horsemen peer of The Lance of the Azure Rose galloping o"er the grassy carpet of the Tourney field in all-triumphant splendor. I shall strive to do honor to our ancestors and uphold the banner of Chivalry for the Crown and the Kingdom, meeting all who will answer and give challenge to me that day.

I bear in own right the arms awarded unto me by their Majesties Odo FitzHugh and Elena de Neuham: Gules, on a sun in splendor or, a horse's head couped sinister, sable; my motto: Vita brevis and by my crest;a horse's head couped, sable.

You shall know me by my linage and accomplishments as follows: Premier Companion to the Company of the Azure Rose, whose colors I display on my lance; argent, azure rose; Cadet to Don Alain De la Vignerie, Apprentice to Duchess Dulcia McPherson; Equestrian Champian of the Emprise of the Azure Rose Tournament in the year of our Lord 2002; awarded the Order of the Trade Winds Trimaris by their Majesties Odo FitzHugh and Elena de Neuham, for servive to the Crown and Kingdom.

By her grace and for her honor, I carry onto the field, the favor of one of Trimaris' true shining stars, and my inspiration, Duchess Brighid Caileen of the Moors.
I travel forth upon my mighty steed, Caper. You will know him by his color, sable, argent. He is pure air and fire, and the dull elements of earth and water never appear in him, but only in patient stillness while I mount him. When I bestride him, I soar, I am as a hawk. He trots the air, the earth sings when he touches it, the beat of his hoof is more musical than the pipe of Hermes.

As truth and beauty shall together thrive, to thee I send this written ambassage, the 7th day of December in the year of our Lord 2005.

Eryn of Marcaster

Fair greetings to the Baroness Aurora Danielle Trevelyan of Renwick I am Eryn of Marcaster and I have only lately come unto these lands. I
most humbly tender my intent to take the field in the Inspiration Tournament of the Rose during the afternoon of the 7th day of January,
in the year 2006.

Please know me by my crest and colors: a horned hippocampus, rampant, upon the colors purpure and argent. My motto is `magnum en parvo', or
as my mother says, `great things come in small packages'.

I shall be mounted on my splendid young black steed, Keegan (aka mundanely as Spanky), a Kelpi which I was clever enough to trick into
wearing a bridle of my own making. If fortune smiles upon me and I do not loose him to any lakes, streams or ponds during my journey, I hope
the ladies of the berfois will be enchanted with his mischievous and wily ways.

Although I shall ride in the procession with my mother, Hilary of Marcaster and her companions, the honorable Jennifer of Marcaster and
John of Cypress Keep (known also as the Lance of the Black Spur), I will alone take the field in the afternoon with the intent to both
"Inspire" and to "Be Inspired".

Respectfully.

Eryn of Marcaster

Grandest Greetings Unto mi' Lady Eryn of Marcaster from Baroness Aurora Danielle Trevelyan of Renwick, Marshal of the Company of the Azure Rose on this the day of Saint David hoping his blessings find thee well.

The best-known miracle associated with St David is said to have taken place when he was teaching in the middle of a large crowd. When those at the back complained that they could not see or hear him, the ground on which he stood is reputed to have risen up to form a small hill so that everyone had a good view.

As the very first entrant into the Rose Companies first Inspiration tournament you are much like Saint David on that hill.  You rise up so that all may see what the future of the dream is for all of us.

We are very happy to have you join us along with the Lance of the Black Spur.  We are sure that you and your brave steed Keegan will be inspired by our Most Noble Ladies of the Berfrois and they will be enchanted by your spirit.

May you be protected until we meet upon that golden field.

Your Friend,
Baroness Rory

Lady Ragnhildr Sigtryggsdottir

Unto Baroness Aurora Danielle Trevelyan, Baroness Brenna Caitlin MacGrioghair of Renwick, and Premier Patroness, Duchess Elspeth Trelawney MacNaughton of Lochawe, do I, Lady Ragnhildr Sigtryggsdottir, send these words of greeting and letter of intent to stand as Venent upon the lists of the Tourney of the Wolf Moon.

As the new year begins, my travels take me south out of my kingdom, Meridies, and into your warmer kingdom, Trimaris, which is dear to me.  It is my intent to offer chivalrous challenge to the worthy Comrades holding the field at the Emprise of the Azure Rose.

My accomplishments are modest.  Their Royal Majesties Ailgheanan and Ashilr have deemed me worthy and have awarded me the right to bear arms:  Per bend sinister vert and azure, a bend sinister cotised between a wyvern and a dolphin urinant argent.  My shire of Vulpine Reach has twice awarded me with their service award,Companion of the Fox, and the lords of the shire have shown me great honour by bestowing the Rising Moon award upon me.  I am a Meridien Equestrian Marshall.  I have most recently competed in the first Argent Rose Emprise, the Tourney of Chilvaric Love, where to my humble amazement, I was chosen Champion from a field of far more worthy combatants.

I take the field upon my mighty destrier Avenger(sometimes known as Hank) and ride for the honour of Countess Hannah, carrying her favor onto the field.

I ride with the Companions of the Lance of St. Martin of Tours, Lord Logan and Lady Svana.  I look forward to testing my prowess in the Emprise of the Argent Rose Tourney of the Wolf Moon and will be all comers honourably.

Until the day of competition, be safe and live well.

day.

I will riding the magnificent Vixen, courtesy of Lady Meghan Blackheart and I will be riding for the Honor and Love of my Lord,
Iohne the Borderer, and for the Honor and Glory of my Kingdom of Trimaris.

Hail unto my good friend Lady Niccolosa Drogonetti, I Baroness Aurora Danielle Trevelyan send warm greetings on this the day of new beginnings hoping my missive finds thee most well.

Glad news that Lady Meghan has done well to tutor you and that you shall join us in the Inspiration of the Azure Rose tournament.  There are a great many lessons we can learn from a horse.  Courage, wisdom born of insight and humility, empathy born of compassion and love, all can bequeathed by a horse to his rider.

There is no gladder news to horsemen then the knowing that someone else has discovered a love untapped for these noble beasts.  Kissed by sunlight, embraced by open fields.  The horse is the center of all beautiful things.

May you be inspired by our most inspirational Ladies of the berfrois and your own Lord Iohne the Borderer.  May your heart be filled with the good wishes of the folk of Trimaris who carry you well in their hearts.

May you be protected until we meet upon that golden field.

Mi' Lady Ka'lyn

Greetings unto Baroness Aurora Trevelyan and the most Noble Ladies of the Berfrois from Ka'lyn Mitore this 30th day of December, being 2005 Gregorian.

While I have not yet earned the many and various honors as some of the participants in this noble Emprise, my heart and life is bound to the service of the noble horse.  I serve also as the Deputy Equestrian Officer of the Shire of Castlemere and as Deputy Web Minister to that self-same Shire.

Know also, I am a member of the great Household Naked Moon and will strive most heartily to ride in their honor upon the field.  I shall endeavor to uphold the honor of my Shire of Castlemere and my Kingdom of Trimaris, and bring good word fame upon them.

You shall know me by my colors purpure, vert and sable and by my crest of plumes of the selfsame colors.  Know me also by my noble golden destrier, the ever-faithful Dust In Tyme who shall bear me in the Emprise.

I mostly humbly entreat Your Excellency to grant me entrance unto the field of the Azure Rose, that I may drink deep of the chivalry, honor and pageantry found therein.

Yours in Service,

Ka'lyn Mitore

Warm tidings unto Mi' Lady Ka'lyn Mitmore from Baroness Aurora Danielle Trevelyan on this day of new beginnings, hoping this missive finds thee well.

Most happy I am to know that you will take to the noble field of the Emprise of the Azure Rose.  You will be well met upon that field by some of the greatest horsemen of the knowne world.  You will be well met by some of the greatest ladies of the knowne world from our berfrois.

Your love of these glorious beasts is well known to me and we share the dedication of our lives to their care.  A most noble pursuit indeed.  Where in this wide world can a person find nobility without pride, friendship without envy or beauty without vanity? Here, where grace is laced with muscle and strength by gentleness confined. He serves without servility, he has fought without enmity. There is nothing so powerful, there is nothing so quick, nothing more patient.

May you and your mighty steed Dust in Tyme be inspired to great deeds that day with the inspiration of your house and shire and the most noble Ladies of the berfois.

May you be protected until we meet upon that golden field.

Greetings unto Baroness Aurora Danielle Trevelan from Dohna of Vulpine Reach.

My faithful steed Odessa and I will travel to the southern realm with our companions Ragnhildr and Hank.

I humbly tender my intent to take the field for the Inspiration of the Azure Rose.  I shall strive to meet all challenges honorably.  I look forward to improving my skills.  As yet I have no device; however, my barding is gules with or tassels.

Most happy we are to know that you will make the journey from your Meridian home to join us in the Inspiration of the Azure Rose Tournament.  It is said God took a handful of southerly wind, blew His breath over it and created the horse.  How thrilled the Ladies of the Berfrois will be to see another of the South come to the field to honor them that day.

We welcome you to the field of honor.

May you be protected until we meet upon that golden field.
